Hôm nay, nhân buổi sinh hoạt Nhóm Nghiên cứu Phát triển thảo luận về đề tài EPDM. Blog Cao su Việt giới thiệu một phần nhỏ về cao su tổng hợp quí giá này tại một trang web trên mạng.

EPDM or EPM based elastomeric compounds are used in various fields in which mineral filler based compounds are extruded. This is the case of compounds for the insulation coating of electric cable. The optimal theology for these applications consists of obtaining either the best fluidity in extrusion without affecting shape stability, or the best shape stability without affecting fluidity in extrusion.
Ways are known for improving the relationship between shape stability and fluidity of the material based on molecular weight distribution (mwd) and chain branching. Broadening the mwd improves the drop of viscosity in shear (shear thinning). Nevertheless, the broadening of the mwd in Ziegler-Natta copolymerization/terpolymerization makes the monomeric unit distribution worse. Moreover, we may find fractions with low molecular weight and low ethylene content, which provide stickiness and can make the curing rate worse.
Chain branching can be obtained using radical initiators, such as the well known peroxides used in EP(D)M vulcanization. However, the peroxide treatment can provide partial cross-linking, and increases the molecular weight.
